TOMORROW IS

December 3, 2010 is the last Firstfridayartwalk on ETSY for 2010. Use the search words firstfridayartwalk, aweteam and ffaw fine art on ETSY to find all of the participating shops. If you would like to join us please click on the title "TOMORROW IS" top of this blog and you are there and the click join on the AWEteam page. What is everybody working on for their shops? I am concentrating on Spring Easter 2011 etc Glenna's Garden will reopen then, sometime in early 2011. I have been designing and creating jewelry, purchasing Spring, oh and Valentines Day too. Plus we have St. Patrick's Day in the mix. I am in the pastel color mode currently. It feels like Christmas and winter are here with all of the hustle and bustle out there and all of the pretty Christmas/Winter outdoor decorations. We had so much rain and very high winds yesterday. This place I am in was shaking last night keeping me up. That is another reason I would like to move to a better place. We have noreaster storms here every so often, they come with high winds. I am only about 45 mins in from the NH coastline, and this place was shaking so bad in the last one, before the storm last night, that I seriously felt very uncomfortable and scared. I am an experienced hurricane survivor, of a few too. My favorite Christmas theme is Victorian that is why I picked these pictures/clip art today. They are from Dover Publications. The Christmas tree I used yesterday as well. Happy crafting, shopping, decorating, baking and whatever else you are doing during this holiday time of the year.

TODAY IS THURSDAY

This is Manchester, NH the city I love to hate......

One week until Thanksgiving ~ What I will be serving this year Thanksgiving 2010 roast turkey (I have sucessfully cooked many over the years), real mashed potatos (a family favorite...they all loved my potatos)one year many moons ago I made 20 lbs of my mashed potatos for our usual rather large inlaws outlaws and friends holiday gatherings, then there is the real stuffing I make it from scratch and it always turns out perfect, I am still thinking about a vegetable yet, oh and gravy always have to make homemade gravy with pan drippings, crescent rolls and real butter, my favorite whole cranberry sauce, and this year I want to bake some cookies to serve with dessert ~ pumpkin pie. I will do this for my son and I because I love to cook and bake! If there are others to join us well then I always make a lot extra so there will be enough just in case. What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

SO SO Saturday

Today is a big shopping day for me. So that is why it is a so so day. Maybe something great and exciting will happen and I will find a fantastic bargain in craft supplies. I love to shop for bargains. Where do you shop for bargains? Online/in store? I do both. Then there are the groceries I need which are basically stock up items, canned goods, staples, condiments mostly this weekend. I am hoping it warms up a bit later on as it is only 39 at 7 AM this morning. I am not an very early neither really late shopper. I don't go for those 4 AM in store after holiday sprees. I am very conservative with what little money I receive. Every bit of it carefully calculated. I love to shop thrift stores and garage sales. What are your likes and dislikes about shopping? I love shopping Etsy the most. I find the best deals there! I can't hardly wait to reopen my etsy shop Glenna's Garden http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ and hopefully soon. I am redoing the entire store and I will be offering all new products. Etsy has the best feature where you can sign up for email notification for when a shop reopens. If you want to know when I reopen and be the first to know about some fantastic deals I am offering please sign up.

Etsy has partnered with http://www.hgtv.com/ check out the latest for holiday decorating ideas!

Holiday cookies yum I love to bake cookies.

Do you bake cookies?

Wet Wednesday

ART IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

It started raining last night here in NH and it hasn't let up it is still dripping. The plants are loving it of course. It is quite cool though and only 54. I love the sound of the rain dripping outside of my open window in the studio. I like it better than any music. Do you live somewhere where there are a lot of murals painted on garage doors in alleys and on the sides of many big buildings? One of my current photography projects is to take pictures of the many murals around my city where I live. We have graffiti too like any big city but this is art to encourage others to see beauty in their surroundings and to create some of the most beautiful murals they want to, instead of the graffiti that plagues our city. My latest art challenge is to create a cityscape: day or night, my choice. I am also working on a mountain scape. Small scale though not big like these fantastic murals. I hope you are inspired to create by your surroundings wether you live in a big city or way out in the wilderness, by the ocean or far away in some other foreign land. This article was not written to offend any true graffiti artists. I have seen some very nice random murals created by graffiti artists. I am talking about the kind of amatuer graffiti random vandalism to our beloved homes....that we work so hard to own. The kind of graffiti that is sprayed on the sides of businesses that the owners work so hard to run.

Lattice Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie Recipe

INGREDIENTS

Pastry

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
6 Tbsp each cold butter, cut in small pieces, and trans-fat-free shortening
1 Tbsp lemon juice
2 to 4 Tbsp cold water

Filling

1 1/4 lb rhubarb, trimmed and cut into
1/2-in. slices
1 container (16 oz) strawberries, hulled and halved
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 tsp ground ginger
1 Tbsp butter, cut in small pieces
1 1/2 Tbsp sugar

PREPARATION

1. Pastry: In food processor, pulse flour, salt, butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. With motor running, add lemon juice, then water, 1 Tbsp at a time, just until dough separates from sides of bowl.

2. Gather dough into a ball and divide in half. Press each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour or until firm enough to roll out.

3. Place a sheet of foil on a rimmed baking pan on bottom rack to catch any juices. Heat oven to 425ºF. Coat a 9-in. pie plate with nonstick spray.

4. Roll out 1 dough disk on lightly floured surface or between 2 sheets of wax paper to a 12-in. circle. Fit dough into pie plate, pressing gently onto bottom and up sides. Roll out remaining disk as above into an 11-in. circle; cut into 1-in.-wide strips.

5. Filling: Toss rhubarb and strawberries with vanilla in large bowl. Mix sugar, cornstarch and ginger in a small bowl until blended; toss with berry mixture to evenly coat. Spoon into pastry-lined pie plate; dot with butter.

6. Arrange 5 dough strips across pie. Arrange remaining 5 strips at right angles, weaving. Press ends into edge, fold under and crimp. Brush strips with water; sprinkle with sugar.

7. Place pie on center oven rack; bake 25 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350ºF, rotate pie 180 degrees and bake 50 minutes more (loosely shield pie with foil if crust gets too brown) until crust is golden and filling bubbles. Cool on wire rack. Serve at room temperature. Makes 8 servings. ENJOY!

When I was a little girl this was very similar to one of the pies my Mother made. She loved to cook and bake. I do to.
