STILL LOOKING

I have been searching for a new home because I don't like where I am living currently with hard crime prostitutes inner city not safe....sad but true.... a lovely city otherwise living elsewhere in this NH city. I have been here for a little over 4 years now. It really hasn't changed much inside the city in the core central area. It seems overcrowded and the houses are on top of each other. It is a city I have to come to love for it diverse cultures, arts, many parks, lots of beautiful preservation of very old structures. It was once a mill town. We are on a river. Eastside of the river is preferable! and to the North. There seems to be a lot of rentals available so we can pick and choose. I looked at two on Sunday and the basements flood when it rains so the washer and dryers are up on wood pallets. How do you do your laundry if that happens? Wading around in rubber boots! I would be afraid to mess with electric appliances, no thank you. So anyway I have a couple more prospects that are dry yay! Each place has its own quirks. These are large victorian homes and buildings many of them multifamily. I wouldn't mind a 3 family preferably a single family but they are rare and expensive. In a 3 family home you have the whole floor to yourself and some are quite large. I would love to be on the first floor I am older and have physical problems.

I would love something like this for a vacation home wow!

Don't dwell on who let you down, cherish those who hold you up!

This months calendar picture in my studio, do you like it? I will be blogging some during my move. I am sure that I will get many new great pictures of wherever I move to so that I can share them with you. I will also be popping in on the FFAW AWEteam forum now and then to update everyone!

CELEBRATION FIRSTFRIDAYARTWALK

Today is a double good day. An Etsy team I am on is called the AWEteam (art walk etsy team) It is one year old this month of September 2010. We are also celebrating Firstfridayartwalk today. Every first Friday of each month all participating shops can be found by using the following search words on Etsy firstfridayartwalk, aweteam and ffaw fine art. In my shop http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ I have a whole section devoted to FFAW (firstfridayartwalk) items for sale. Other shops may offer discounts or shipping specials. I try to keep my costs low so that I can offer a unique gift for a reasonable price. If you are interested in joining we welcome all Etsian shop owners. Please contact me through my shop.

I have finally started the picture taking process of many new items for Glenna's Garden. My Fall 2010 collection. A mix of my art and jewelry mostly. I have been busy creating all summer long. Some of my new art is inspired by challenges and themes suggested by other artists. My jewelry is a continuation of my Simply Sweet line for Fall.

One thing I have always done for my readers is give you a sneak peek at items I have created before I list them in my shop so here are a couple of pictures for you.

The following is a favorite of mine!

Pineapple and Banana Nut Bread

Two mixing bowls: one small and one large

Ingredients

3-cups all purpose flour

3/4–teaspoon Salt

1-teaspoon baking soda

2-cups sugar

1-teaspoon ground cinnamon

1-cup chopped pecan

3-eggs, beaten

1-cup vegetable oil

2-cups mashed ripe bananas

1-(8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained

2-teaspoon pure vanilla extract

In the large bowl...combine the first five ingredients; then stir in pecans.

In the small bowl combined remaining ingredients; then add this to flour mixture, stirring by hand just until dry ingredients are just moistened.

Spoon batter into 2 greased and floured standard size loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 5 minutes; remove from pans, and let cool on wire racks.

Enjoy!

Something I read today and I am just passing this along to you~

Rejoice for the people who God brings in your life; Be thankful for those that He removes. Everybody isn't suppose to be a permanent fixture. You are a work in progress, so don't get upset when God changes the tools (people) He's using to build you. Circumstances, situations, and things are going to come and go as you grow. FIRST DAY OF AUGUST 2010

In Manchester, NH Ahhhhh relief with humidity low and the temperatures starting out below 60 this morning...yes I saw 58 degrees early this morning now with the sun breaking through I feel mildly warm a good warm with the fans actually producing a chill though my mind is thinking refreshing and this recipe is it. I thought I would start out with sharing this first thing with you. I love cucumbers and the seedless variety is the best tasting I think. They are sometimes called European cukes too!

Little Cucumber Boats

Vegetarian Times Issue: November 1, 2004 p.100

These are simple to prepare but look fancy. Use the long, ridged cucumbers (known as English, Dutch, hothouse or seedless) because they contain less water and fewer seeds.

Ingredient List

Makes 8 dinner servings, 24 appetizers

1 seedless cucumber, about 1 foot long

7 oz. feta cheese

1 Tbs. sour cream

2 Tbs. orange juice

1 Tbs. finely chopped mint

1 Tbs. finely snipped chives

1 1/2 tsp. orange zest

Salt to taste

Chopped chives for garnish

2 juice oranges, thinly sliced and pitted for garnish

Directions

Trim ends of cucumber, and cut in half crosswise, then lengthwise. Scoop out seeds. Blot cut sides with paper towel.

Crumble feta into bowl. Add sour cream, orange juice, mint, chives, orange zest and salt; mash with fork. Add a little water, if needed—mixture should be more creamy than crumbly.

Mound filling into cucumber halves. Cut stuffed cucumber into 1-inch pieces.

Place on orange slices, and garnish with additional chives. Divide among 8 salad plates, or arrange on party platter.

Cucumbers 2010

Everything is flourishing outside at Glenna's Garden. This was a particularly good year so far and we still are only a little more than half way. The heat from **** didn't help! We survived. Higher than normal electric bills and water bills. Even the indoor plants took it hard because they are in a room off the studio and some are in the studio near big windows and not in an airconditioned space so while the humidity was nice it really was a bit too much for these Northern plants of mine. The pomegranate bush is so nicely filling out and is doing great this summer. The avocado tree went crazy and the cacti loved the heat of course.

The next ETSY event is coming up in just a few days firstfridayartwalk on August 6, 2010 use the search words aweteam, firstfridayartwalk and ffaw while shopping at ETSY to find all the great shops like mine www.gnormyle.etsy.com that are participating. I am on the AWEteam so if you have any questions you can always ask me. Free to join and lots of fun. All Etsy shops can participate at level 1 and use the tag word firstfridayartwalk on their items they list in their shops. We are a yahoo based group for which I am a co-moderator. FEATURE FRIDAY: ETSY SHOP

Welcome to Crocheted Bees Beanies and Beyond

Doris Sturm of Honey Bee Crocheting  http://www.sturmdm.etsy.com/

She donates 10% of every sale (and 20% of every bee shaped item) to Honey Bee Research to help save our bees.

Where are the honey bees going and why is it so important to help save our honeybees? If you are interested in learning more about our vanishing honey bees, you can find more information at

http://www.helpthehoneybees.com/

Doris says:

I learned to knit and crochet in school when I was a girl in Germany and even though that was many moons ago, I still consider myself an amateur because there is always something new to learn that I have not tried yet.

I recently became a crochet instructor at Valdosta Technical College and I look forward to sharing my gifts with others. I am also looking into becoming a certified crochet (and knitting) instructor using a correspondence program.

Over the years I have knitted and crocheted all sorts of things and I often design my own patterns. Not only do I draw from my memories of what I have learned in the past, but also challenge myself by trying new stitches and patterns that I find in books or on the Internet. As you can see in my shop, I don't specialize in any one particular item, but like to crochet (and knit) all sorts of things to keep me amused, although recently I am leaning towards making more bees to support my cause.

I like using good quality acrylic or cotton yarn for easy cleaning. Any specialty yarn items will be explained so that the buyer is aware of specific cleaning considerations beforehand.

Please look at some items I have created:

I am offering a SPRING SPECIAL: A FREE gift with every purchase of $5 or more!

I specialize in crocheted bees (all of which are my own design and OOAK), kitchen accessories and - as of late - doll couture and beanie type hats (caps.) However, you will find a variety of other interesting and unique items. If you like something you see that I sold, or would like a custom order, just let me know. Please note, that CUSTOM ORDERS ARE PAYABLE IN ADVANCE, often at a slightly higher price depending on your yarn selection (for detailed explaination, please read my Policies Section at http://www.sturmdm.etsy.com/

Doris says: I'm just asking the people who enter to please answer which of my bees they would be more likely to buy, either as a gift or for themselves because I'm trying to determine which kind to make more of for the upcoming Honey Bee Festival in October.
