WAY TOO LONG AGO

Time can go by and if you don't have time or make time to blog. It is nice to come back to it. I am back on again! My pomegranate plant is going crazy this year. So beautiful is the dark orange red color of the flower.

STILL LOOKING

I have been searching for a new home because I don't like where I am living currently with hard crime prostitutes inner city not safe....sad but true.... a lovely city otherwise living elsewhere in this NH city. I have been here for a little over 4 years now. It really hasn't changed much inside the city in the core central area. It seems overcrowded and the houses are on top of each other. It is a city I have to come to love for it diverse cultures, arts, many parks, lots of beautiful preservation of very old structures. It was once a mill town. We are on a river. Eastside of the river is preferable! and to the North. There seems to be a lot of rentals available so we can pick and choose. I looked at two on Sunday and the basements flood when it rains so the washer and dryers are up on wood pallets. How do you do your laundry if that happens? Wading around in rubber boots! I would be afraid to mess with electric appliances, no thank you. So anyway I have a couple more prospects that are dry yay! Each place has its own quirks. These are large victorian homes and buildings many of them multifamily. I wouldn't mind a 3 family preferably a single family but they are rare and expensive. In a 3 family home you have the whole floor to yourself and some are quite large. I would love to be on the first floor I am older and have physical problems.

I would love something like this for a vacation home wow!

I was up early this morning. I finally got all caught up with Glenna's Garden http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ Well it looks like I will be featuring two international shops back to back on Feature Friday here on my blog the next two Fridays. I finally have it all together and I am feeling 100% better. Today is a day off for me normally but I will be using the day to stay inside in the cool air and get things done for the start of a new week. The rest of the work to put an article together is easy. I will be adding a link here later today for a treasury I will create today. This time the challenge will be a theme. I wish when I put the treasuries together that I could move the items I choose around by simply clicking the picture and repositioning it in another place just like we can do when we rearrange our shops. I am looking forward to Christmas in July on Etsy. I have received some good customer feedback on my jewelry I have listed. I started out wanting to offer jewelry but it is so very competitive on Etsy. I have so many new items to take pictures of Monday and hopefully start listing soon. What are your plans for today? Is anybody taking a vacation? I am waiting for my sister to move back to FL soon and then I will go there to visit her when it is cold here. Yay!

What's up, it is Wednesday?

It's the last day of June.......already half way to the big weekend. Nice temperatures today YAY! Today is a beautiful day! Finally a typical day in June for us 70 degrees low humidity. The kind of day when you go outside you feel refreshed. I will be out taking advantage of this day taking many new pictures. Yes today I get to be the photographer side of myself. Nowhere best than Manchester, NH for an adventure in the gardens. So this will be a short short blog and if I can I will add to it later on today, I just might. I belong to three Etsy teams so I have decided to create new treasuries one in red another in white and the third one in blue to salute our teams and of course Fourth of July! This weekend is going to be fun. I enjoy watching the fireworks over the river downtown. Enjoy your day wherever you are!

ON A FRIDAY NIGHT

Well I did it. I planted the basil seeds that came with a box of Triscuits purchased recently. I have taken some pictures of the process of soaking the square cardboard in water for 4 hours today. Then you peel the cardboard apart which reveals the seeds. Glenna's Garden studio always has a pot and the best potting soil to put in it. So then you can dig around and plant your seeds fairly shallow. There was a white gluey substance around the seeds after soaking them. It made them sticky. Easy to pick up one at a time. It was fun! Now we wait and see. Of course up here in Manchester, NH it really isn't a good idea to plant much outdoors yet. So this is an indoor project. I love fresh basil.....don't you?

First you soak! I soaked for the full 4 hours.

Then you peel apart the cardboard and plant the seeds!

You can even use the cardboard empty Triscuit box. Use it as protectors for shipping flat items like I do from Glenna's Garden sometimes! Just cut it up any size you may need. If you recycle don't forget to recycle cardboard. SOME DAYS ITS RAINY

Not only is it really dark grey and raining today here at Glenna's Garden, but it was snowing this morning. It is now 3 PM in the afternoon and it is still a cool 40 degrees. That didn't stop me from taking some nice pictures of outdoors around Glenna's Garden. HMMMMMM looks like the rain gauge is filling up. The lilac to the right is about to pop. We should be in the 70's this weekend so I am sure it will be looking and smelling really nice by then.

I am saving this container from going into the land. It is 8 1/2' tall and 5" round. I thought it would be interesting to take some before pictures and then after pictures when I have upcycled it. These are the really fun projects that I really enjoy doing.

Spring is coming. The forsythia has budded. It is raining ever so lightly today. The window is open in my studio and it sounds better than any music I have ever heard. It is cool and rainy today up here in NH. The kind of day that every light is on in the studio. I have some red felt and my challenge to myself today is to do something with it. I was thinking create ahead of time and make some flowers possibly for Christmas 2010. Yesterday I worked on SEO search engine optimization with my shop at www.gnormyle.etsy.com I am always pushing myself to learn more. SEO involves the use of proper tag words so you can be found. My business challenge for the today is to rearrange my shop online. I think I am pretty good at doing this and love to rearrange Glenna's Garden often. So this is just basically something I always have been doing since I started a year ago.

We are bracing for another quick blast of a couple of inches of snow today I hear. It has been absolutely frigid in the negative degrees and very windy lately. I am staying warm in the studio, sewing and creating some of the Spring line for 2010 for Glenna's Garden. The picture of the day is a set of mulberry paper bookmarks I created for the Spring 2010 line. It is beautiful paper to work with as well as joy to look at. I have procured some of this paper so I can do a couple of custom orders wether it is bookmarks or tags. Interested please let me know. This cute snail was seen casting its' shadow as it slithered around the garden indoors of course not really though but what a neat way to make something from an empty plastic tape dispenser. I am keeping that one out of a landfill. ECO ART!

We have more rain today and it's cool here in Manchester, NH. I am soooo excited there are actually 3 small buds on the pomegranate bush here at Glenna's Garden studio. I will get pics and share them on here when they are bigger because they are teeney tiny right now. I did a major reorganization of my supplies today. I need to get some storage containers. I listed this ACEO I made "Taking It To The Edge" in my shop yesterday. It is from Quilter's Delight, a box set of booklets designed with a quilter in mind. SHINY DAYS ARE BACK

We had so much rain up here in Manchester, NH yesterday something like 3". It strips the trees of their beautiful leaves. It poured all day long. Good day for shopping. This morning it is bright and sunny but I am sure it is cold too. My pomegranate plant appears to have two itsy bitsy blooms popping out again where the others have all been. This should be pretty I hope they take so I can get some pics to share. I am looking forward to making different items for Thanksgiving and Christmas in the next couple of weeks. I have picked up some great stuff to work with including watercolors. Currently I am running a free offer for a PIF (pay it forward)surprise. Limit one per household. Thrilling Thursday

Yes today is the day. The article is out. Myself and my teammates from NH ETSY STREET TEAM are all over it. Please take a moment to read the article. However if you do find this note from an artist, designer, photographer from Manchester, NH you will be able to see my blog. I prefer to call them notes. I do try my best to post often but I am going through a big healing process. This has been the best rehab for me. I have been through seven surgeries in the past 3 1/2 years. I have battled cancer in muscle and I am surviving. I am currently living with both fibromyalgia and RSD aka CRPS which are both nerve conditions one in your muscles and RSD is from an injury I sustained. WHAT YOU WISH FOR WEDNESDAY

In the middle of the summer don't you just wish for a break from the heat. This morning it is cool and 66. That is what we are now having up here at Glenna's Garden in Manchester, NH and then 20 degrees hotter by afternoon and thunderstorms. Is it Fall? Can't be I was hoping for an Indian Summer...endless summer say just 70's! I decided that today I would finish all Fall projects, including the canvas and then start posting them to my shop at http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ I recently redid the shop product lineup so I am now ready to post more art and Fall projects. This takes preplanning. I also have to watermark some more of my art and photographs prior to posting. They get sent to my designer through email and she watermarks them for me and sends them back to me via email. I am going to have to order supplies for Christmas next month. I have some to get a start I posted a PIF known as a Pay It Forward fabric bookmark in hearts and holly leaves in my shop at www.gnormyle.etsy.com

Super Saturday

I love it when I get a sale in my shop on a Friday night. It makes my weekend. Well I got another one last night. I sold my turtle beads on a ring with beautiful ribbon. It is such a cute decoration. I was really hoping to make more beaded items. I have filled my shop with my art, photography and experimented with many different paper products and small gifts each one unique. I even have some vintage. I am on the hunt to find out what is popular and what isn't. I still haven't figured it out! Any suggestions I would really appreciate feedback. Muggy Monday in June 2009

Rain rain go away we want to get out and play. We have had high 60's and nothing but rain, a bit of sunshine this past weekend. Of course it is great for the gardens and plants outside of Glenna's Garden. We are closing out one month and getting into July 2009 here soon. July means the midpoint to summer up here in Manchester, NH. Our farmers market is open on Thursday afternoons from now until October. Every year I look forward to trying new varieties of fruit, veggies and herbs. Talking to the farmers and just in general enjoying the atmosphere is always a highlight. Buying goats milk soap a necessity. Listening to good music and meeting new neighbors in an otherwise large city brings a small town feel to this event. I don't have any pictures but I promise to take some when I go on Thursday to take some pictures and share them. I believe that the shop at Glenna's Garden http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ has done fairly well even in this really tough economy and I expect it to grow. As we phase out some of the older products and introduce new ones I expect to see our sales grow. The pink roses are done with their pressing and drying process. The petals are the softest I have ever felt. Those were the roses I blogged about in my earlier blogs that were a 5" inches across in their blooms. We made potpourri with some, have 5 beautiful dried rose buds and numerous pink petals for design now. Very pleased. This is the time of the year when a lot of flower pressing and drying is going on here at Glenna's Garden. We did orange day lilies the other day. They make for a beautiful specimen to work with and become almost transparent when pressed except for the colors and striations. I have a picture or two of the lilies I will post them today. With them it is on going process because you have to catch them just right as they bloom and die in one day thus the name. I have generally 6-8 blooms on each bunch just in what has been picked on a daily basis to assess and then they are split and ready to be pressed. Being a somewhat fleshy plant they take a fairly long time to dry possibly up to six weeks whereas some other flowers a week or so. Sweet Saturday

Today was beautiful here in Manchester, NH. My shop was buzzing with buyers and I made another sale today. I sold one of my pieces of art called an ACEO Artist Cards Editions and Originals. I designed it using silk fabric over paper and layered. This is a picture of the ACEO layered in silk before I trimmed it. and the other picture is of the ACEO "SILK" completed. It is beautiful and I know that my customer will enjoy it forever. I am so happy to have found this art form ACEO's must be exactly 2 1/2 " by 3 1/2" and there are no more restrictions. They can be made with clay and wood too or like some of mine which are dimensional , the people I make with pressed flowers for clothing. Most of my ACEO's are for sale at Glenna's Garden http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ . My ACEO's are originals and collectible. They come with a protective plastic sleeve much like you use to protect the sports cards you are collecting. I prefer the hard clear plastic sleeve. Each card I make is signed and dated by me, Glenna Normyle, the artist. I collect ACEO's myself and have some really neat ones. For eample one of my favorites is "cow girls rule" that I picked up awhile ago. That's the country in me. I have been busy making more bookmarks, beaded items , more stuff for my shop and tending to the gardens here at Glenna's Garden. I bought cherries today $2.22 a pound now I know it's summertime. Starting Out As a Typical Tuesday

There are many birds at Glenna's Garden for inspiration. This first one pictured here is a gourd that is handpainted I have repaired its' beak as it came to me for free to receive an artists touch of love. I was able to repair it and will be putting the final gloss coat on this afternoon. It was a fairly easy fix and I will always cherish it here at Glenna's Garden studio. TODAY IS: Learning About ACEO

June 2, 2009 Manchester, NH Things are buzzing around here at Glenna's Garden today which has started out to be a busy typical Tuesday here at http://www.gnormyle.etsy.com/ our site for the finer things in life, stop by soon and treat yourself....between working on the site, Flickr and blogging, there is always still time to create. Being creative is a form of therapy for me, it allows me to relax my mind. Today I created a Flickr Badge and we will be able to use it on our website. Speaking of websites that is a huge undertaking I have made one before. I would love to make another one again but I really don't have the time these days. Here are a couple of pictures that I took of recent projects here at Glenna's Garden. This is an ACEO I made it comes with a clear plastic protector too. It not yet up for sale to the public. These are collectible artists cards that the only stipulation is that they must measure 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" only. They can be dimensional and made in many different forms of art from clay to wood even.
